UNIT 6 Fossil History of the Earth

Activity 3:  Earth's Timeline (SI GLEs: 14, 15; ESS GLEs: 30, 31)

CC:  Students will first need to sequence the events and then research to find the absolute time needed to determine the position on this timeline and decide on an appropriate scale that will allow the model to fit in the classroom such as 1 million years equals 1 millimeter.

Research using World Book Online.  Search using microscopic life for word search.  Article called "Fossils" has some information.  Search using pangea for word search yielded an article called "Paleontology".  Search using dinosaur for word search yielded an article called "Dinosaur." Search using age of mammal for word search yielded an article called "Mammal",  under Evolution of mammals click on age of mammals. Search using first human yielded article "Prehistoric People".

CC:  Using a roll of adding machine tape and a meter stick, create a scaled timeline of the geologic history of Earth, showing time periods, and drawing and labeling major developments/events, fossils in different geologic eras, and illustrations that show how life changed over time.

Use Timeliner to make timeline and add other components.
