Unit 7  What Are the Data?

Activity 4:  Who's got the quickest REACTION TIME? (GLEs: 34, 36, 39)

CC:   Have the students go to the website http://faculty.washington.edu/chudler/chreflex.html and read through different reaction time activities. Have them design their own simple activity using the ones on the website or the meter stick drop-and-catch activity.

CC:  With this data, have students create a histogram comparing class data of the number of students that have average reaction times in the different intervals:

Introduction and information about histograms.  This applet is designed to teach students how bin widths (or the number of bins) affect a histogram.  The students can manipulate the bin widths to see how the graph is affected.

CC:  Next, instruct the students to determine the percent or fraction of students in each interval and create a circle graph representing the numbers and percent of the class in each interval.

MS Excel will allow students to create circle graphs.

Students can create circle graphs at Create A Graph.
