Unit 7:  Structure and Form

Activity 2:  Plant Structures/Adaptations (GLEs:  1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9, 10, 12, 13, 18, 40, 52, 53)

CC:  Students may research other adaptations that protect plants from water loss. These would include researching the plants that have needle-like leaves (i.e., firs, pines, spruce) and those which drop their leaves in the winter to retain water such as many deciduous trees.

Some suggested websites with pictures of deciduous, conifers, and other plant adaptations for the research on plants are:

If you have a college nearby, ask someone in the agriculture, botany, or biology department to come to your classroom & speak on this topic. Guest speakers are a wonderful resource. They may have samples to bring of different species that are not common to your area.
