Martin Luther King, Jr., Middle School is the only true middle school in the Monroe City School System.  Located on the southside of Monroe, MLK student body consists of approximately 783 sixth, seventh, and eighth graders from three feeder schools:  Berg Jones Elementary, Jefferson Upper Elementary, and Minnie Ruffin Elementary Schools.

The school is staffed with a qualified, caring faculty that is interested in developing the whole child.  Staff members seek grants and programs that assist in meeting the needs of our students.  MLK is presently recognized as a participant of the GEAR up Grant.  MLK  was previously recognized as an AIM (Achievement, Imagination, Motivation) school.  We have been recipient of the Mid-South Middle Start Grant, Chase Grant, and the Innovative technology Grant recipient (I-PAC Lab), and other grants within the district and state.  We are currently a LINCS member school, and the majority of our staff has INTECH (instructional technology) training.

We are proud to see a consistent increase in standardized test scores.  Martin Luther King Jr., Middle was recognized for academic growth based on 2001 school performance scores.  Although we are not where we want to be, we are consistent in making strives upward.  We will continue to work diligently to provide students the foundation to become educated, productive citizens in a diverse society.
