    S. T. A. R. Academy/Alternative Program

    Goal: To provide accelerated and concentrated instruction for students in order for them to move to a more age-appropriate grade level and improve their academic performance in reading and mathematics.

    The STAR Academy is a voluntary program that targets academically deficient students in grades seven and eight.  The program is housed within Lee Jr. High, Carroll Jr. High, and Martin Luther King Middle School.

     Other Information:

    • Uses the current Monroe City School District Scope/Sequence/Comprehensive Curriculum and Benchmark Assessments
    • Uses STAR reading and STAR math results for progress monitoring
    • Corrective Reading Program- Read Now Power Up/Read 180 (LJH only)
    • Corrective Math Program- Accelerated Math
    • Teacher- Student Ratio- 15-1
    • Behavior Coaches are CPI trained
    • Ongoing Professional Development in Differentiated Instruction, Literacy Strategies, and School Wide Positive Behavior Support.
