    Curriculum Support

It is not about the technology, it is about teaching and learning. Instructional Technology takes pride in the curriculum support it provides to district teachers.

    PLEASE PARDON OUR UPGRADE.

The curriculum support resources listed below are being integrated into one searchable database. The new database will allow users to search for all items (lesson plans, Idea Bank activities, project resources, etc.) through one friendly interface. Until the database is completed, the resources are offline. We promise to work quickly and diligently to get them back up as soon as possible.

    Lesson Plans

An important part of Instructional Technology efforts is to work with teachers and/or district Curriculum Facilitators to develop lesson plans and activities designed to support and enrich the curriculum. The standards-based lessons and activities incorporate technology resources that engage students in the learning process and allow for the use of the current information available on the Internet. The lesson plans adhere to the LDE Making Connections format which is designed to support the Louisiana Comprehensive Curriculum. All lesson plans and activities are posted on the district web site to promote easy access and use by teachers.

Idea Bank   (temporary address - do not bookmark)

As a direct result of feedback from district teachers, Instructional Technology created an Idea Bank of technology-rich activities that could be completed within a single class period. Created by Instructional Technology personnel and MCS teachers using district adopted software and resources, all activities are correlated to the GLEs. Every effort was made to ensure that although the activity is short in length it is effective in practice. The Idea Bank is posted the district web site to promote easy access and use by teachers.

    Projects

What began as a small, joint project with Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge quickly mushroomed into an innovative, hands-on resource which has been used by teachers locally, regionally and nationally. The project hosts high-quality, authentic, project-based lesson plans and activities correlated to both the Louisiana Content Standards and the Louisiana K-12 Educational Technology Standards.   The success of the project stems from the fact that teachers and students alike enjoy learning activities which are in a real world environment where they can truly be engaged in the learning process.

      • Probing Issues

Probing Issues on Black Bayou Lake NWR is a curriculum project designed for middle school grades which provides a framework for collaborative, interactive learning for teachers and students.  Because the focus of the Black Bayou Lake Project is to provide resources which will engage students in a real-world, learning environment, it seemed appropriate to create the mini-project centered on the Black Bayou Lake Project. With this in mind, multi-curriculum, technology rich activities were created and implemented on-site for the district's seventh grade students.  The program was designed so that it could be used for years to come.

      • Water Quality: A Global Issue

The Black Bayou Lake Project which hosts authentic, hands-on, technology- rich lesson plans with a focus on student projects was the impetus for the project, Water Quality: A Global Issue.   For this project the Monroe City School students utilized the two bodies of water, Black Bayou Lake and Bayou DeSiard, to employ skills and concepts learned at school in a real world environment.

The Region 8 Technology Coordinators and TLTC personnel were concerned about the ability of teachers to create the materials needed to conduct many of the activities that required the use of technology in the Comprehensive Curriculum. With all the demands on teachers' time and the limited amount of technology resources in the region, how or even when would teachers be able to complete this challenging task? So what began as a desire to assist teachers in the implementation of the Comprehensive Curriculum ended in a nine month project requiring the skills and time of numerous educators in Region 8 who created the charts, forms, templates, etc. not provided in the Comprehensive Curriculum but needed to conduct the technology-connected activities. Additionally, slideshows to compliment activities were created and numerous appropriate, supporting web resources including videos were identified.

    Guides and Tutorials

Instructional Technology personnel have created guides or tutorials for many of the district-adopted software applications. Most recently, short "How Do I" tutorials were developed to address specific skills within applications. The guides and tutorials are posted the district web site to promote easy access and use by teachers.
