high school students shall be in attendance a minimum of 81 days, or the equivalent, per semester or 162 days a school year for schools not operating on a semester basis.
elementary students shall be in attendance a minimum of 160 days a school year.

District Policy
- A student is considered to be in attendance when he/she is physically present at school or is participating in an authorized school activity.
- A student is considered to be absent when he/she is not within an assigned area by a designated time or who is in non-compliance with accepted regulations.
- All absences categorized as excused or unexcused shall be counted when computing the student’s minimum attendance requirement and the awarding of credit for class work. Exceptions can be made only in the event of extenuating circumstances approved by the principal and verified through the office of student support services. All extenuating circumstance requests must be handled within 3 days of returning to school. The student, parent, and/or guardian may file a formal appeal regarding extenuating circumstances to the principal.
