Round Robin Writing, Microsoft Word

In a computer lab, open Microsoft Word so that students can perform a round robin word processing activity.  The teacher gives the student the first sentence to type (story starter).  The student then adds one sentence on to that story starter.  The teacher allows about two minutes.  Then the students move to the next computer (either clockwise or counter clockwise).  The student reads what the other student wrote and then writes a sentence to continue that story.  If time permits, the students can proofread all the sentences.  The activity continues until the student returns to his or her original seat.  Then the student wraps up the story and shares it with the class.

Students can work in groups to prepare the writing for publishing.  Each student reads another story and highlights any parts that are misspelled in red, that are confusing in yellow and that are missing in purple.  Then the student corrects his or her story until it is suitable for publishing.

This activity could also be done in the classroom with one computer.  The students would move to the computer, add their sentence, and then let the next student take their turn.  When all students have had a turn, choose a student to read the story.  A group of students could later edit the story for publishing.
