This lesson is one in which the students will
identify new vocabulary words and use them in context. They will read a
story containing the new words. To enhance what they have learned, they
will work in groups composing a short paragraph with illustrations.

Background Information:
The students should be aware of the letters of the alphabet and their
sounds. They also must be able to group sentences to form a short story.

Lesson Procedures:
TTW present each word and orally guide the student in decoding and
restating the word.
TLW read the story in the Language Reader.
TLW go to the computer and trace the vocabulary words.
TLW decode each word on the worksheet.
TLW write each word 3 times on paper.
TLW complete the sentences on the worksheet by selecting the correct
word.
TLW work in a group on the computer to construct a short paragraph with
illustrations. |

Accommodations/Modifications:
The lesson will be taught multi-sensory. Instruction will be modified to
their functional level. The lesson includes repetition, rote teaching,
redirection and one on one assistance.

Students will use the decoding skills throughout the reading material in
the curriculum. Composing a short story helps to develop their
creativity, sequencing skills and writing skills. |

Reflections:
I have been very impressed with the Language! Program's method of
teaching. It has really worked well with those students who have really
struggled with the "standard" way of teaching reading. |
