Lesson Plan
Title:  Shape Graphing
Subject:  Mathematics
Grade Level:  K
Overview:
The lesson is about sorting shapes and placing them in the correct column of a graph.
Approximate Duration:  30 min.
Content Standards:
  • Geometry
         In problem-solving investigations, students demonstrate an understanding of geometric concepts and applications involving one-, two-, and three-dimensional geometry, and justify their findings.
Benchmarks:
  • G-1-E
         determining the relationships among shapes;   (1,2,3,4)
  • G-6-E
         demonstrating the connection of geometry to the other strands and to real-life situations.   (1,2,3,4,5)
Educational Technology Standards:
  • Use a variety of developmentally appropriate resources and productivity tools (e.g., logical thinking programs, writing and graphic tools, digital cameras, graphing software) for communication, presentation, and illustration of thoughts, ideas, and stories.
Objectives:
TLW identify circle, square, rectangle, and triangle.
TLW place shape in correct column on graph.
TLW identify more, less, or same.

Background Information:
Sts. have been introduced to and can recognize each shape.
Lesson Procedures:
1. Using Power Point, identify shapes that are a circle, square, rectangle, and triangle.
2. Students will sit in a circle around the floor graph.
3. Distribute objects to students to be graphed.
4. Students identify the shape they are holding and place in correct column.
5. Identify which column has more, less, or same.
6. Review the shapes identified.
Assessment Procedures:
Observation of identification of shapes and placement of them on the graph

Students will circle correct shape called out on test.
Accommodations/Modifications:
* Preferential seating
* Peer tutoring
