Overview:
After singing the ABC song, the teacher will ask the students if they know what a coconut tree is, and where you find one. Tell students they are about to hear a story about a coconut tree and alphabet letters. After reading the story, Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom the students will identify alphabet letters and place them on a coconut tree. Students will apply Alphabet Cereal to a painted coconut tree. As students are working on art projects students will go to KIDPIX and draw a coconut tree and then stamp letters on the tree. During center time, students will use work mats and match magnetic letters to alphabet letters on the mats.

Approximate Duration:  45 minutes

Hardware:  Computer

Background Information:
The students should be able to sing the Alphabet song.
The students should be able to use technology skills (mouse).

Lesson Procedures:

1.  The students will sing the Alphabet Song.
2.  The teacher will ask students if they know what a coconut tree is and where you would find one.
3.  The teacher will show the students the cover of the book, Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom and students what they think the story might be about.
4.  The teacher will read the story.
5.  Students will place alphabet letters on the coconut tree.
6.  Students will return to their desks and paint a coconut tree. After picture is dry, Alphabet cereal will be glued to the tree.
7.  As students are working on art projects, students will be allowed to come to the computer and go to KIDPIX to draw a coconut tree and  stamp alphabet letters on the tree.
