| Students will research holidays in Mexico using a Trackstar.
Students will investigate customs of various holidays, the
significance of the holidays in Mexican history and culture, and draw
comparisons to American celebrations. |

Students should be able to access the Trackstar website. They must
also be able to read and comprehend, as well as reading for specific
details. |
Lesson
Procedures:
1. TTW introduce the lesson with a brief discussion of holiday customs
in the U.S. TTW ask students if they think Mexican people celebrate
the same holidays and in the same way.
2. TTW give students a copy of the worksheet which contains the
questions.
3. TLW access the TrackStar website.
4. TLW begin reading and answering the questions from the TrackStar.
TLW write answers to questions as they find them.
5. TTW monitor student progress and assist as needed.
6. Closing activities will involve group discussions of various
holidays, the manner in which they are celebrated, the significance of
the holiday. Students will also be encouraged to compare the ways in
which we celebrate and the way Mexicans celebrate the same holidays.
Ask students to discuss/think about Mexican customs which they might
enjoy incorporating into their own celebrations. |

Procedures:
Students will turn in worksheet and TTW check for completion and
accuracy. |
Accommodations/Modifications:
Students with reading difficulties could work with a partner or could
print copies of the various websites and work from a hard copy instead
of the monitor.
