Lesson
Procedures:
1. TTW - cut open an apple to show students apple seeds. Discuss the
importance of seeds.
2. TTW - Read the first 5 pages of Pick Me An APPLE! From Seed to Tree-
Discuss
3. TTW - give Growing Up! handout (sequence) from Kindergarten Teacher's
Helper Aug/Sept. 2003 - students color, cut, sequence, paste in correct
order-
4. TTW - have students use paint or Kid pix to illustrate the sequence
of an apple tree's growth.
5. TTW - provide material for students to plant apple seeds - Teacher
will use digital camera to take pictures or video -
6. TTW - Use handout Apple Tree Needs from Kindergarten Teacher's Helper
Aug/Sept. 2003 - Discuss
7. TTW - complete book Pick Me An Apple! From Seed to Tree - use the
book's pictures to have students describe how an apple tree looks from
one season to the next.
8. TTW - Read the book, Apples - discuss John Chapman - parts of an
apple, review the apple tree during the seasons.
10. TTW - have students use kid pix to illustrate an apple tree in each
of the seasons
11. TTW - read Apples, Apples, Apples -Discuss - make applesauce and do
apple prints- use video or digital camera to record events-
12. ALL will work together in using the pictures from the digital camera
to put in correct sequence for class Apple Booklet. |
Accommodations/Modifications:
Students with sensory impairments: Vision - 1) The student will be
placed close to the teacher as she reads and shows pictures or visual
aids. 2) The teacher will demonstrate on student's handout the
directions that need to be followed. Physical 1) Pair with a
non-disabled student. 2) Pre-cut activities to make glueing easier.
Attention/Behavior Difficulties - 1) The student will be given physical
opportunties in passing out supplies or taking up work. 2) The teacher
will maintain eye contact during oral directions. 3) Praise often when
the student is on task. Non-Reader - 1) Visual aids will be used often.
2) Oral responses will be written on board. 3) Pre-teach vocabulary and
review daily.

Reflections:
I taught this lesson in mid-September. The students and I really had a
good time. Next time I use this plan, I will extend it to 5 days - 30
minutes. |
