GED Literacy
Course Length: Individually Determined
This class is to provide specialized introductory classroom instruction for literacy. Students receive instruction in the following areas: English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Reading Comprehension and Computer Literacy. These classes also focus on preparing students to secure their General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and/or elevating literacy level. Students preparing to secure their GED receive instruction in the following areas: English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, Reading Comprehension and Computer Literacy.

Office Occupations Training
312 Clock Hours - 3 months
This class focuses on preparing students for general office work. They will be trained in the following areas: keyboarding, word processing, ten key calculations, filing, payroll procedures, and general office procedures and duties.

Certified Nursing Assistant
281 Clock Hours - 9.5 weeks
This 9.5 week course is designed to prepare students for Nursing Assistant Care. They receive instruction in a classroom setting and practical training in a health care facility. The training follows the guidelines of the State Department of Health and Hospitals.

Young Male Program
20 Clock Hours Per Week On-going
The Young Male Program is a voluntary program for adolescent African American males from the ages of 15-18. The program is designed to serve at-risk males who are presently members of gangs or potential gang members in the city of Monroe. Students in the GED Program will be individuals who have dropped out or were expelled from the regular school system.

Dropout Prevention
8 Clock Hours Per Week
Ages: 12 - 16
The specific aim of this class is to educate, train and enhance productive citizens of the low to moderate income at-risk youth and adults who reside in the city of Monroe with significant concern on the Booker T. Community.

Single Parent Program
130 Clock Hours - 13 Weeks
The Single Parent Program offers literacy, life and job pre-employment training skills for first time single parent mothers between the ages of 16 to 19 years of age. Job training to young females between the ages of 16 to 19 years of age.

Night Computer Classes
16 Weeks
This class is designed to provide students with basic computer skills. It provides instruction from beginning typing to computer applications.

Summer Enrichment Program I
Adults - 2 Weeks
Children - 1 Week
This class is designed as a computer refresher course. Students are able to brush up on computer skills.

Summer Enrichment Program II
6 Weeks
This program is open to children and adults. The children are provided educational enrichment by instruction and computer instruction which covers the core subject areas. The adults are provided computer instruction dealing with Windows and Microsoft Works.

Customer Service/Retail Sales
144 Clock Hours - 6 Weeks
This six week program is designed to prepare students to be trained in all phases of retail sales. They receive training in a classroom setting and practical training in a local store. Topics include: using a ten key calculator, cash register, customer service, team work, work ethics, merchandising, and telephone procedures.

Life and Enrichment Skills
This class focuses on preparing the "whole" individual for living as a productive citizen. Areas of focus are: public speaking, writing skills, social etiquette, parenting, building self esteem, home living (sewing, decorating, table setting, etc.), first aid, creative dramatics, banks and banking (budgeting, taxation, opening bank accounts), use of newspapers in education, insurance (kinds needed and how to make purchases), fine arts, map reading, government, and voting.

Jobology
This course prepares students for success in current job markets. It is designed to cover all aspects of job search from initial decisions on choosing a job to success on a job once it is obtained.

Future Courses

OIC has plans to implement the following courses:

Cable Line Installers
A four to six week training in basic cable installation.

Food Preparation Services
A 12 to 16 week program in basic food service.

Radio/Television Film Production
A 6 to 8 week training in radio/video production and camera operation.

Measures of Performance

The OIC Program measures performance by means of testing and setting performance goals and objectives with each instructor/class. All students are tested prior to enrollment with the CAT. Progress testing is performed on a regular basis throughout the school year.

Overall program performance is measured on a continuous basis by evaluating goals and objectives set for each instructor/class. This consists of number enrolled, advanced, completed, employed, dropped, etc.
