Overview:
Students will learn about alliteration and increase their vocabulary as they tour Black Bayou Lake NWR. After touring the refuge the students will create an alliteration with animals or objects seen on the field trip. The students will then use Microsoft PowerPoint to create a digital book, Alliterations on Black Bayou Lake.

Approximate Duration: 3 Sixty Minute Classes

Background Information:
The students should be able to create complete sentences using the parts of speech effectively.

Lesson Procedures:
Day One :
1.Introduce alliterations by reading Dr. Seuss' s A B C Book.
2.Play "I Went On A Trip" game to allow students to use alliteration. To access the game go to the following link, http://www.sil.org/lingualinks/literacy/ImplementALiteracyProgram/HowToPlayTheIAmGoingOnATripGam.htm
3.Take students on virtual tour of Black Bayou instructing them to be thinking about alliterations that could be used with various animals or plants.
4 Close by whole group sharing of some of the plants or animals found. Have class brainstorm words that begin with the same letter that would describe each word.

Day 2
1. Take students on a field trip to Black Bayou Lake. (Divide into small groups of 3 or 4 with a chaperone and job assignments for each child.)
2.Students work to find animals or plants to match the letters of the alphabet their group has been assigned. (similar to a scavenger hunt.)
3. Have students record what was found, where it was found and a verb that describes its action.
4. Assemble at educational center to compare and finalize notes.

Day 3
1. Have students assemble in groups from yesterday. Use notes to work on pages for each letter assigned.
2. Use thesaurus or go to computers to find words that might be used in place of the words from their notes that begin with the letter needed.( Have students be prepared to share meaning of words used) .
3.Have group decide on best sentence to use in PowerPoint.
4. Let each student in the group be responsible for making one slide of the PowerPoint for that group.

Day 4
1. Present PowerPoints of alliteration.
(These may also be printed to make a class booklet of Alliterations Along Black Bayou)
